August Already
Good time of day, everyone! It’s August already. Can you believe how quick the year is moving? We have been busy busy running around, and July was no exception. We were able to be at JoMoCon this year over in Joplin, MO. It was a wonderful show, we had a great time there and met a lot of great people. Right now we don’t have any other Cons on our schedule this year, but we’ll update you if any come up!

Now, other big news! If you’ve been following us for a bit than you’ve heard a lot about our show O.O.P.S. (Official Oddity Problem Specialists) It’s been a 5 years or so long project for us as we learned how to make a fully scripted audio show and searched for an editor. Last year we were introduced to Luna who was interested in helping with the editing, and this last year we’ve been working together to get O.O.P.S. finished, and we did it! In July, Episode 12 released and with that our entire 11 episode first season is now done and released! Given the long production time, we also had met a lot of people in the TTRPG space and these people were so kind as to jump into the show and provide their voices. Big shout out to my friends at Don’t Kill My Character (Kate, Shannon, and Natasha) and Lance Sawyer for jumping in and filling out our cast even further. Thanks to the big reception and wonderful feedback we’ve gotten from people who love the show and have been very excited, we are now at work on a season 2, as well as a few specials. We’ll be starting our meetings shortly to get on that, so keep your eyes peeled for more info. I am immensely proud of this show and everyone involved. I learned so much from working on it, and I got to see what I learned in action with House on Valley Lane, which came out before O.O.P.S. but was made years after O.O.P.S. began and our turn around time was much quicker. Thank you all for your support; we hope to provide more scripted content for your ears.

In actual play news, The Written & the Lost hit episode 135 last week! We’ve had a great time with the party being split and with our guest, Stephen Harrel. The revelations keep coming as more and more of the story is being revealed, and we know that you all are going to be very excited with what’s going on and what the partmy is about to learn.

Cast Corner: Poetry
I was never much for poetry. As a kid, I’d read the greats and wrinkle my nose—This doesn’t even rhyme!—I would chastise. And yet, as I've grown, so has my appreciation for the beauty of the English language. Sometimes harsh, sometimes flowing. Sometimes brusque, sometimes loquacious.

Yet beyond the selection of words—borrowed, stolen, crafted, and organic—one thing remains true: the pallet an artist of words has to play with is unrivalled.
|
I think that is what draws me to poetry now. The arrangement of the familiar in new ways. Sometimes the startling glimmer of something unrecognised that draws the attention like a beacon.
|
In the end, though, what really is a poem?
|
|
Is a poem—in essence—a song?
|
|
Must we rhyme it, as we go along?
|
Or is this stark distinction all wrong?
|
|
Perhaps the arrangement of words matters just as much as selection…
|
Precious stones set in precious metals…
|
|
A rhythm—marching, beating, marking time
|
Pace driving you to read each word and line.
|
But there’s more than meter…
|
|
Syllables marked out with care
|
|
But then, you might see a poem wild:
|
|
Shapeless, formless, and flowing.
|
|
The words spill out playfully and unmeasured like a brook in the sun.
|
|
Yet beautiful in their wildness, splendid in their motion.
|
|
The petals of a dandelion.
|
The sound of each word on the speaker’s lips
|
A poem—I think—is just words.
|
|
|
